For many years, collecting exotic and beautiful woods has been Tom's hobby. As a result of his collecting and searching for special woods, we are able to offer you a most unusual selection of woods, rich in color and figure. It has been a lot of fun for us to see these woods transformed from boards into beautiful reel seats. In addition, we work with some suppliers of fancy wood seats to help us locate special woods. We are always looking for new woods that are unusual and beautiful. Please check with us for availability of different woods.

Some of the most stunning woods used start as very soft and partially decomposed specimens. Normally they would be unusable, but through a process called stabilization the pores are filled with resin and they become unusually beautiful reel seats. The resin impregnation makes them very strong and more waterproof but a bit heavier. Though the stabilized woods appear slightly darker, they really come alive in sunlight. All of the seats are sealed with numerous coats of hand-rubbed oil for a beautiful and durable satin finish.

Pictured here are examples of the different species offered. They are representative samples of the woods, showing color and grain that would be typical of what we have available. You will receive a beautiful piece of wood in the species you select, but, as is the nature of wood, it will differ slightly in color or grain pattern from those shown.

If you are in the area, we invite you to make an appointment to stop by our shop to look at our reel seats and select one for your rod. When our customers see our wood selection, they are always amazed at the great variety of woods we have available and at their beauty. However, most of our customers select their wood from the catalog. If you can't decide we are happy to select a wood for you if you give us some suggestions as to your color or tone preferences. One of these special woods will individualize your rod and make it unique.
